2012 1st Annual BBB Winner Cade Hasser with BBB Founder Jillian Sweet Tinnes, April 1st, 1976 - November 28th, 2014

Hello from the Beers and Brats for Boobies Committee! We are the organizers of a 5k race that is a non-profit event held in Lamar, a small community in the southeast corner of Colorado, held during the Lamar Chamber of Commerce Oktoberfest.  Our organization is the only race of its kind that raises awareness for breast cancer, in that all the proceeds collected remain in our local community.  The race was founded by Jillian Sweet Tinnes who courageously fought her battle with breast cancer, but sadly departed this world November 28th, 2014.  Since 2008 when my sister Jillian was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, she tried to think of a way to bring attention to this terrible disease.  In 2012 she was able to organize and successfully integrate a 5-K race to raise breast cancer awareness during our community’s Oktoberfest celebration.  We are now in our 6th year of planning for this worthwhile event.

We are looking forward to over 300 participants in this year's race. This 5k Race gets bigger every year and not only shows how amazing and strong Jill was  but also shows how strong the families are as they run in honor of those fighting breast cancer and the loved ones they have lost.  The BBB requires each participant to run or walk 3 miles to slip on a pink tutu, then halfway through stopping to eat an entire bratwurst (bun optional), then run to the finish line where the runners are required to drink a cold beer or root beer. Everyone is a winner but those who come in first receive an award!  The effort and dedication of the runners is truly amazing and to successfully eat a bratwurst and drink a beer is a sight to see.

The BBB committee members obtain financial sponsors including local businesses and organizations eager to donate to the event.  We hope to continue fostering existing and new relationships with businesses and/or people capable and wishing to offer their financial support. Our respect and appreciation for this type of support is expressed by promoting their business or organization, with placement of the name of the business on the back of the annual t-shirt. We also mention and thank those sponsors for past and present donations during a promotional spot with our local radio station.  With your donation the Beers and Brats for Boobies 5k Race/event will be even more successful than the previous years. Thanks to you and the amazing participants  the BBB has raised money and donated all the proceeds to our local hospice.  Lamar Area Hospice has been helping families who struggle with cancer for a very long time.  Together we help to bring comfort and understanding to those experiencing the impending loss of a loved one.  In 2015 hospice was able to launch a new program with a portion of the BBB funds called the Good Grief Program. This program helps families with children who are going through the grieving process.  Lamar Area Hospice is a vital part of our community and we hope to continue this dream and goal that Jillian once had.   The BBB is about coming together, being aware of your body and challenging yourself to run for those who cannot.  Anyone can participate so bring your friends and family and join the fun.  Show your support for all those battling breast cancer.  Thank you and we hope to see you at the finish line!
