HELLO! Welcome to the 12th Annual Beers and Brats for Boobies, 5k Event to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness! All proceeds will benefit the Lamar Area Hospice Good Grief Program and Southeast Colorado Cancer Initiative.
Do you like running? Running to wear a pink tutu? Do you like running while eating a brat-wurst (bun optional)? Do like drinking a beer or root-beer after running a 5k? Do you like doing all these things in the form of a race for a good cause? If you answered yes to all of the above then you’ve come to the right place!
We are the organizers of a 5k race that is a non-profit event held in Lamar, a small community in the southeast corner of Colorado, held during the Lamar Chamber of Commerce Oktoberfest. This years event will be October 7th, 2023.
Our organization is the only race of its kind that raises awareness for breast cancer, in that all the proceeds collected remain in our local community. The race was founded by Jillian Sweet Tinnes who courageously fought her battle with breast cancer, but sadly departed this world November 28th, 2014. Since 2008 when Jillian was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, she tried to think of a way to bring attention to this terrible disease. In 2012 she was able to organize and successfully integrate a 5-K race to raise breast cancer awareness during our community’s Oktoberfest celebration. We are now in our 12th year of planning for this worthwhile event.
The BBB committee members obtain financial sponsors including local businesses and organizations eager to donate to the event. We hope to continue fostering existing and new relationships with businesses and/or people capable and wishing to offer their financial support. Our respect and appreciation for this type of support is expressed by promoting their business or organization, with placement of the name of the business on the back of the annual t-shirt. We also mention and thank those sponsors for past and present donations during a promotional spot with our local radio station. With your donation the Beers and Brats for Boobies 5k Race/event will be even more successful than the previous years. Thanks to you and the amazing participants the BBB has raised money and donated all the proceeds to our local hospice. Lamar Area Hospice has been helping families who struggle with cancer for a very long time. Together we help to bring comfort and understanding to those experiencing the impending loss of a loved one. In 2015 hospice was able to launch a new program with a portion of the BBB funds called the Good Grief Program. This program helps families with children who are going through the grieving process. For the 10th Annual race, BBB is excited to include Southeast Colorado Cancer Initiative (SECCI) to be awarded along with Lamar Area Hospice. Together they are a vital part of our community and we hope to continue this dream and goal that Jillian once had. The BBB is about coming together, being aware of your body and challenging yourself to run for those who cannot. Anyone can participate so bring your friends and family and join the fun.
